摘要：This paper takes the influential Sapir-Whorf hypothesis as a cutting point for a cross-cultural rethinking of the relationship among language, thought and culture. Based on a comparative examination of Chinese and English cultures, from their respective philosophical ideas and value systems, the author attempts to prove that the syntactic, lexical and morphological features of Chinese and English languages are manifestations, to a large extent, of the differences in Western and Chinese worldviews and thinking patterns, the formation and interpretation of which cannot be separated from their respective cultural traditions and orientations framed over history.
